You should always strive to hit a golf ball on the 'sweet spot.' You want that golf ball to fly straight - without going off course, and becoming a bad slice or hooked shot. Hitting the golf ball in the sweet spot facilitates this nicely.
Here are a few basic tips to help you develop a powerful, straight shot on the sweet spot. Aim and alignment are both important factors that you can control before you swing your selected golf club. Even though you likely won't be able to hit the sweet spot every time, you can greatly increase your chances if you improve your aim and alignment. Repetition helps with this – a lot!
A good 'shot routine' will help you to fine-tune your aim and alignment by forcing you to follow a repeatable procedure – to achieve a repeatable result. Before you begin a pre-shot routine, you must get behind the ball. This is the only way you can clearly sight the area you want to hit.
You can now begin to approach the golf ball and shot with confidence, because you know for sure that you will hit it with perfect aim and drive it for well over 200 yards. From then on, this will be a straightforward process, and you will continue to keep that positive attitude every time you step up to the tee. It's about confidence!
To start with, place your hands on the club (get your best grip), keeping the clubface nice and square. Now, align your body properly, checking that your feet, thighs, hips and shoulders are all parallel.
Then, with the confidence you gained before approaching the ball, trust your own aim and alignment; and execute the perfect shot you envisioned. If you are setup properly, even if you don't hit it perfectly, you will more than likely send it flying close to the 300 yard mark. The more times you do this, the better you will become at it. Your confidence will grow quickly along with your successes.
Master your approach, aim and alignment, and repeat them every time. These simple little confidence boosters are always great for golfers, and can greatly improve your game if used in conjunction with different techniques.
Integrating your mental golf game and your physical golf game will improve your scores much faster and better than either could do alone. As humans, we learn physical action sequences by repetition. The first time you tied a shoe it took every bit of concentration you had, but after a few times – it became quite easy. Your golf shot will be the same way. Force yourself to continuously do it properly until it is second nature to you – just like tying a shoe. You can practice your procedures with a bucket or two of balls at the driving range, and really lockdown your procedures, stance, and so forth MUCH faster than when you're on the links shooting a round.
