The Steinfeld Mansion was constructed in 1900 as the Owl Club. Subsequently, it was bought by then-notorious Tucson department store owner Albert Steinfeld. The mansion was located in
an upscale downtown district that was formerly known as "Snob Hollow." This astounding mansion is a fine example of famous architect Henry Trosts's passion for the
unusual, powerful Mission Revival style of design. Take special note of the impressive arched portico and fully tiled roof. These are both features
reminiscent of the early Spanish missions of Northern Mexico and the American
Southwest. (Architect Henry Trost moved to Tucson with his sister, Louise, in the early 1900's.)
When you visit The Steinfeld Mansion, be sure to take a minute to enjoy the amazingly cool, shaded courtyard. Access
to the mansion is free. Today, The Steinfeld Mansion has been converted to office spaces, so viewing must be done from outdoors.
