Nobody really knows for sure how much water you should drink every day, and different people have different views. Some experts insist that you should drink at least eight, eight-ounce glasses of water every day. That is assuming that you weigh about 150 pounds, do some form of regular exercise, and finally, that your environment is reasonably cool (72° or less). Every person has different water consumption requirements, and those requirements can vary dramatically when activity is added, or the climate is altered substantially – such as in the desert. Hence, there is no universal general rule. How much water you need depends on your physical weight, your level of physical activity that day and your environmental conditions. If you go into the desert, you should plan on drinking at least three times the amount of liquid you normally consume. If you are being inordinately active in the desert, you should plan on drinking at least five times the amount of liquid you normally consume. Never forget that sufficient hydration is mandatory to all aspects of human and animal life. |
