A Tucson Vacation

View from University of Arizona campus

I think it would be accurate to say that most people have a pretty good idea of what they want to do on their vacation. This piece of information then leads them to concluding where to go. People who want to snow ski on their vacation, will not go to the Rain Forest. People interested in camping out or riding horses during their vacation will not go to Los Angeles or New York City.

Then there are those people who want to see something specific on their vacation. These people usually know where they will take their vacation because it is the only place one can see what they want to see. There is only one place to see the salmon run on the Columbia River. There is only one place to watch the ball drop on New Year's Eve in Times Square. And there is only one place to watch the Indianapolis 500.

If you know what you want to do on your vacation, and you are thinking about where to go to do it, consider taking a Tucson vacation. As you're about to see, if you opt for a Tucson vacation, you'll have a cornucopia of options for activities – some of which you likely had not considered.

Hiking in Tucson
When you take a Tucson vacation, you'll have more miles of quality hiking available than you can possibly imagine. Tucson Arizona is located in the Sonoran Desert region of the southwest. So you have access to hiking areas and trails that will take you through the mysterious beauty of the desert. But you are also within a 30-minute drive of three mountain ranges – any of which affords hikers some great challenges, and awe-inspiring views. One of the most popular hikes in Tucson is at Sabino Canyon. Every morning and evening Tucsonans gather to walk the beautiful trails and take in the unique scenery. It is no doubt the most popular hiking trail for locals, and quickly becomes a cherished memory for those hikers to take a Tucson vacation.

Bicycling in Tucson
Tucson is host to one of the nation's most popular bicycle races: El Tour de Tucson. It's a massive event that draws riders from around the world. But you don't have to wait for that popular annual race to enjoy the copious bicycling opportunities afforded by a Tucson vacation. There are countless miles of bicycling at every challenge level and with a variety of scenery available no place else. There are endless rides across the desert flats, and twisting, curving roller-coaster roads that wind throughout places like the Saguaro National Monument, and Gate's Pass. And then there's the mother of all Tucson bicycle rides – the one that beckons advanced bicyclists to take a Tucson vacation – Mount Lemmon. Over thirty miles of grueling riding through several distinct ecosystems and geological niches – all with scenery that will make your rest stops into moments to remember. No doubt, a Tucson vacation suits the bicyclist extremely well.

Golf in Tucson
Tucson is synonymous with golf. And if golf is your game, then a Tucson vacation is for you. Countless golfing events are held in Tucson every year. This requires that Tucson have some tournament level courses available for play. You can play the same courses as the pros – always under the watchful eye of the majestic mountains surrounding Tucson. But there are many, many courses with many difficulty levels located throughout Tucson and the surrounding area. It's almost impossible to be in Tucson, and be more than ten minutes from a great golf course. There are extremely nice public courses, and some of the best private courses in the world offering an array of challenges at varying greens fees. A Tucson vacation is a golfer's dream come true!

Tucson Weather
Many people take a Tucson vacation just because of the weather – especially during the winter months in North America. The average temperatures in January and February are 64°! July and August are the only 'wet' months, really – and even in those months, 2" of rainfall is average. Most months have less than an inch of rainfall per month. Taking a Tucson vacation solely because of the weather is fine, but more importantly, the fantastic weather facilitates everything else you want to do. There's not much chance of your bike ride or golf game being cancelled due to inclement weather. That means that on a Tucson vacation, you'll get to do more of what you want, when you want.

Space limitations prevent the inclusion of even a small part of what awaits those who take a Tucson vacation, but here are just a few of the other places, activities, and events that (at the very least) merit brief citation:

Biosphere II (See it for yourself.)
Flandrau Planetarium (A world class facility.)
Old Tucson Studios (Watch Hollywood make movies.)
Tombstone, Arizona (Only 1-hour away.)
Mount Lemmon (Snow skiing in the winter.)
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (Amazing!)
Reid Park Zoo (The new elephant areas are now being built.)
Colossal Cave Mountain Park (Great tours!)
Kitt Peak National Optical Astronomy Observatory (World famous.)
Tucson Gem & Mineral Show (The largest in the world.)

Tucson Arizona - diversity, great weather, great restaurants and entertainment, impressive cultural events and friendly people. It all awaits those who elect to take a Tucson vacation.
