Also, other experts on the subject affirm that the actual name of this city derives from the Celtic Gallic word "paraisio" which can be translated as "the workers". Paris is situated by the River Seine, and is composed by an urban area with a territory of around 105,500 km2 and two inhabited islands called Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint Louis. The city of Paris is divided into twenty districts or arrondissements, among which around thirteen are the most important from the point of view of history and architecture. One of the first districts tourists should visit when they travel to Paris is the Quartier Latin, where the Sorbonne Campus and many unique constructions from the 12th century are located. Other interesting district visitors should not miss during their vacation in Paris is the Place de la Bastille, where the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysees, and a variety of other historical spots are located. |
