Visiting Padua
Another reason to vacation in northern Italy

Padua is a very interesting and attractive city located towards the northern region of Italy, within the region of Veneto. This city has a major importance in that region of Italy due to the fact that it is its main centre -- from the point of view of economy and communications. Padua is an excellent choice of destinations for all those tourists who wish to travel to Italy for a vacation in which they can visit interesting historical places as well as enjoy exciting activities.

The economy of Padua is based on a wide range of products, such as those provided by automobile works, chemical factories, candle works, saw mills, breweries, distilleries, agricultural machinery, and ink works – among others. This city has a crucial role in the economy and trading of products of this region of Italy. Padua is known as the central market area of Veneto and its surroundings.

According to some experts, Padua is the most antique city in the northern area of Italy. Knowing this, it is very easy to imagine the great number of unique and amazing historical places that this city offers including constructs, monuments, religious buildings, and art centers. The traditions of this city are deeply rooted in, and strongly related to, its past. During their vacations tourists will surely see a unique combination of past and modern lifestyles.

One of the first places visitors should make sure of seeing when they travel to Padua is the Palazzo della Ragione. The Palazzo della Ragione was built between 1175 and 1220 and counts with the peculiarity of having one of the largest roofs unsupported by columns in all of Europe. The walls of this palace are covered by antique frescoes, and its architecture can be enjoyed by every tourist who is fond of the disciplines of architecture and design.

Another place tourists should not miss during their visit to Padua is the Loggia of Gran Guardia. This construct, built between 1495 and 1525, is located in the Piazza dei Signori and is close to another interesting building called the Palazzo del Capitanio. The Palazzo del Capitanio is where the building of the Venetian Governors was designed by a famous architect and artist who brought the Renaissance style to the city.

The Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua is the most important antique religious building a tourist could find in Padua. This religious construct was built between 1235 and 1335, and counts with the work of several artists and architects. When visiting this basilica, tourists could observe seven cupolas, a variety of antique ornaments and marble works, and a chapel where the rest of the saints in whose honor this construct was built are buried.

One of the most traditional and typical spots visitors can see in Padua is the Prato della Valle. The Pratto della Valle is an impressive elliptical square of around 90,000 square meters which is known to be the second largest in Europe, after the Red Square of Moscow. This square is uniquely attractive, not only because of its size, but also because of its rich history, its lush central garden, and the several celebrated statues it contains – including the statue of Andrea Memmo, the patrician Venetian who was known as the "provider of Padova."

To change Centigrade to Fahrenheit use the formula (#°x9/5)+32.
