London is not only the capital of England and the United Kingdom, but also the most populated city in the entire European Union. Needles to say, this is one of the most attractive and interesting destinations tourists can meet in not only Europe but the entire world as well. Without any doubt, this is one of the best choices tourists can make when they plan to travel to Europe for a fun and interesting vacation. The city of London has a population of about 7.5 million people while its metropolitan area counts with around 14 million inhabitants. These inhabitants, called Londoners, show a wide diversity of cultures, religions and even languages due to the fact that, according to the statistics, more than 300 different languages are spoken in this city. This city, without any doubt, is one of the most cosmopolitan and exciting destinations tourists can meet in Europe. | |
One interesting fact to know about London is that, despite that it is known as a city and is regularly classified as such, from a technical point of view it isn't. Technically, London is a region which counts with two different cities called the City of London and the City of Westminster. Besides this, it might also be interesting to know that, despite of the fact that it is considered the capital of the United Kingdom, this city has never been officially confirmed as such. London counts with many different areas or districts. The main financial area of London is called the City of London and counts with a government of its own. Other important district is the West End. The West End is located within the City of Westminster and is considered to be the main area of the city from the point of view of shopping and entertainment, being where spots such as Piccadilly Circus and the Leicester Square can be found. The East End, located within the eastern side of the city, is the district which surrounds the Port of London and is characterized by counting with an important among of immigrant inhabitants. |

The city of London is also famous by its schools and art schools, in such a way that receives students from around the world on a constant basis. Some of the most famous schools are: the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and the Central School of Speech and Drama. London has an important amount of green areas and parks which often are counted to be among the main attractions offered by this city. Among these parks and green areas, we can name, for example, the St James’ Park, the Bushy Park, the Royal Parks, and the Kensington Gardens. Also, tourists who travel to this destination for a vacation should try to visit as many of this city's museums, interesting buildings, famous spots and antique constructions as possible. Among the most famous museums, spots and buildings tourists should not miss, we can name, for example, the British Museum, the National Gallery, the Natural History Museum, the Covent Garden, Oxford Street, and the Buckingham Palace, among many others. |
