A Vacation in the Loire Valley

The Loire Valley or Vallee de la Loire is a French region very rich in history and unique constructions. This way, all those tourists who wish to travel to France for a vacation at a spot that allows them to meet many unique ancient constructions and places, should consider Loire Valley as a good choice. Besides this, the Loire Valley also has beautiful landscapes and natural spots, and visitors would surely be able to easily find a wide variety of attractions and things to do during their vacation.

The Loire Valley, often called the Garden of France, is home of many ancient constructions, such as, for example the Chateaux de Villandry, the Chateau Amboise, Chenonceau, and Chambord among others. Most of these antique constructions are centralized in the main historical towns of Blois, Amboise, Oelans, Angers, Chinon, Tours, and Saumur. Although this region counts with antique constructions from many different periods, it is specifically famous by the important amount of buildings it has from the Renaissance and the Age of the Enlightenment.

The importance of the historical constructions of Loire Valley is such that its central area was named a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in the year 2000. This area recognized as a World Heritage Site comprehends the departments of Loir et Cher, Maine et Loire, and Indret Loire, and is, without any doubt, a part of Loire Valley that tourists should always try to visit during a vacation in this destination.

The Loire Valley was the preferred residence place by the Kings of France during the Renaissance times. During that period of time, this area started becoming one of the most popular and visited regions in France, characteristic which can be equally noticed nowadays. Due to the importance the Loire Valley had during the Renaissance, a very large amount of constructions, and especially castles or chateaus were built in this area, most of which can still be visited to the date.

One of the most interesting castles visitors can meet when they travel to Loire Valley is the Chateau de Chambord, a royal and impressing construction which was build by request of Francois I and with the help of Leonardo Da Vinci. Other interesting castle is the Cheverny Castle, a construction that dates from the 17th century and shows a very peculiar combination of styles. Besides the castles just mentioned, tourists should also try to visit the Chenonceau Castle, locally known as Le Chateu des Dames, which was built on a bridge over the River Cher by request of Henry II and in honor to Diane de Poitiers.

That is only the beginning of the list of castles visitors can meet in this destination. The amount of such constructions built in this destination is very extensive, also including, for example, the Chateau de Villandry, the Chateau d’Usse, the Royal Palace of Amboise, and many others. Therefore it is recommendable that, in case of not counting with much time, tourists learn as much as possible about them and choose which ones they would enjoy meeting the most.
