The actual name of this town is believed to date from the times this spot was inhabited by the Celtics. During that époque, this town was called Lindo, Lindu or Lindun, by what is believed to be a word of the Brythonic language used to describe the geographical location in which this city is. During the Roman times, that term was Latinized and the town became known as the Lindum Colonia, after what, and during the Anglo Saxon times, it changed to Lincoln.
The economy of Lincoln is mainly based on commerce, public administration, tourism and farming. Due to its interesting attractions, this city has gradually become, for the last couple of centuries, an important tourist centre. The two main attractions this town has, and which attract visitors to travel here from a wide variety of origins, are the Castle and the Cathedral.
