Travel to Ile de France for an unforgettable Vacation

Ile de France is a French region that used to be considered a district of Paris until around the year 1976. Nowadays is a separate region that is located next to Paris and parts of it corresponds to the urban area of the capital. This region, with more than 11 million inhabitants, is characterized by being the most populated in all France, in such a way that it actually has more inhabitants than, for example, Sweden, Greece, or Belgium.

One of the main attractions tourists can visit when they travel to this destination for a vacation is the Chateau of Fontainebleau. This chateau is one of the most impressing royal constructions of the entire France, and therefore it is a must for every tourist who visits this region of the country. The Chateau de Fontainebleau is located at about 40 miles or 65 kilometers to the south east of Paris, and is built over the ruins of a medieval construction. The actual building was built during the 16th century by request of the King Francis I and shows the work of people from a variety of nationalities since it was designed and built by architects, artists, and designers of Flemish, French and Italian origins.

 

The Chateau of Fontainebleau is one of the most famous constructions in France due to its past and the interesting events that have taken place within its walls in its many centuries of life. Many kings and other people from the royalty have lived in this Chateau, such as Henry IV, Catherine de Medici, Francis II, and Henry II. Each one of its inhabitants have left their mark in the construction by adding rooms or changing parts of it design, turning it into a construction that combines architecture and history in a very unique manner.

Ile de France is divided in eight main arrondisments or departments: Seine et Marne, Paris, Yvelines, Essone, Val de Marine, Hauts de Seine, Val d'Seine Saint Denis. This region surrounds Paris with a radius of approximately 50 miles, and is perfect for being visited after meeting the amazing capital of the country.

The region of Ile de France has been very popular since its origins, in such a way that many famous people have lived in it or were related to it in an important way. Among the important people who were related to this destination, we can name, for example, Joan of Arc, Charlemagne, all the kings of France, Saint Louis, Constant, George Sand, Musset, and Honore Daumier, among many others.

There are many antique constructions and historical places visitors could meet when travelling to Ile de France. Besides its picturesque and charming villages, this destination counts with a variety of unique spots full of history, such as, for example, the Chateaufort, a 12th century fortress, the ruins of a Chateau built in the 16th century, the Saint Remy les Chevreuse, the Saint Lambert building, the Dampierre construction, Les Vaux de Cernay, the house of Rousseau, and the Monument aux Morts.
