Brighton is a famous seaside resort located on the south coast of England, next to Hove. This seaside resort is renowned for its beauty and the great amount of attractions it has, and is a great choice for all those tourists who wish to travel to England for a relaxing vacation. This destination counts with any commodity and facility every tourist might need in order to have the vacation they need and be able to loose stress while relaxing at a beautiful beach. According to historians, the origins of Brighton can be traced back to before the times of the Domesday Book, in the 11th century. At its beginnings, this town was a small settlement known as Brighthelmston which did not start becoming popular until the 18th century, and especially during the first half of the 19th century when the railway arrived to it. | |
The seaside resort of Brighton has several unique historical constructs tourists should not miss when they travel to this region of England. One of these constructions is the Royal Pavilion. The Royal Pavilion was built during the first decades of the 19th century with the purpose of being a Royal Palace for the Prince Regent. This construction is very interesting due to its history as well as to its design, since it shows a unique combination of styles, predominantly Oriental and Indian. This is one of the favorite places for people on vacation. The Palace Pier or Brighton Pier is another spot visitors should not miss in this vacation destination. This pier is the largest in Brighton and has many restaurants, an attractive and large fun fair, and several arcade halls from the 19th century. Another interesting pier Brighton has is the West Pier, although it has been closed for many years in order to be renovated. The West Pier is listed as a Grade I pier, sharing this characteristic with only one other pier in the entire United Kingdom. |

An interesting fact to know about the town of Brighton is that its electric railway, created around the year 1884, is said to be the oldest of its kind in the entire world. Another interesting fact to have in mind is that every year, in May, this town celebrates the Brighton Festival. The Brighton Festival combines a variety of activities, including art exhibitions, parades, processions, pyrotechnics, outdoor shows, and special theater plays, among many others. This way, May is often claimed to be one of the best times of the year to travel to this vacation destination, although those who rather having a more peaceful vacation might want to opt for other date. The main attraction offered by Brighton is its beaches. These beaches and the entire sea resort are very popular due to the way it combines attractive coastlines with many entertainment and recreation related spots such as nightclubs, restaurants, cafes, and pubs. Besides this, Brighton counts with the peculiarity of having two officially declared nudist areas, which is very rare since it is not common to find spots of such characteristics near urban areas in other parts of the United Kingdom. |
