Travel to the Town of Blackpool for a Seaside Vacation

Blackpool is an attractive and interesting seaside town located towards the north western region of England. The name of this city is believed to be born from a drainage channel which used to connect this spot with the Irish Sea and which would form what was known as a black pool. It is also important to know that this city borders with many other towns, including Thornton, Fleetwood, Lytham St Anne's, Cleveleys, and Poulton le Fylde and travel between the cities is very easy.

The city of Blackpool counts with three main central areas, locally known as piers: Central Pier, South Pier, and North Pier. North Pier is characterized by having a theatre and a shopping area, Central Pier by housing a shopping mall and a theme park, and South Pier by having a large theme park. All three piers are very popular with those who travel to Blackpool for vacation.

Tourists who travel to Blackpool for a vacation would have the chance to meet a variety of interesting spots and buildings. Among the most famous places visitors can meet in this destination, there is, for example, the Blackpool Tower, a tower of a height of approximately 520 feet that was built in the year 1894 as a copy of the Eiffel tower. Another interesting place visitors can visit in this city is the Amusement Park Blackpool Pleasure Beach, located towards the area known as South Pier.

Also, while being in Blackpool visitors could meet what is known as the Great Promenade Show. The Great Promenade Show consists on a group of modern art works and interesting objects located next to the southern promenade of the city. Also, tourists, and especially those who travel with children, should not miss the Zoo of Blackpool, where more than 1,500 animals from many different origins live. The zoo is a real vacation bonus!

An interesting fact to know about Blackpool is that for an important period of time, this city had the only tramway working in the United Kingdom. Nowadays, and since the last century, this has been modernized and the city counts with two main railway terminals as well as approximately 32 platforms which provide a good way for tourists to travel around and visit different places.

Several famous movies have been filmed in Blackpool. The first film featuring this city was Sing as We Go, a movie from 1935. After this, many other films were partially or completely made in Blackpool, such as, for example, The Entertainer, directed by Laurence Olivier; The Parole Officer, starring Steve Coogan; Funny Bones, directed by Oliver Platt and starring Lee Evans; and Shall We Dance, filmed in 1996, among many others.

One of the best times of the year to travel to Blackpool is when its dance festival takes place. The Dance Festival of Blackpool is among the most famous of its kind in all Europe, and every year attracts competitors from many different places of the world, providing the town with a very lively and party-like mood. This festival is not only interesting for the competitors themselves, but also for any vacation visitor who enjoys dancing and watching others practicing this activity.
