Birmingham is one of the most important and interesting cities tourists can meet when they travel to the United Kingdom for a vacation. The City of Birmingham has a population of approximately 992,500 inhabitants while its metropolitan area and the West Midlands conurbation region has a population of about 2,3 million inhabitants. According to historians, Birmingham was already inhabited during the Roman times. During that époque, this city would have a major central fort and an important amount of roads, most of which were used for military purposes. Towards the Early Middle Ages, this city started becoming a popular city at a slow, but ever-increasing pace. Despite this, it was not officially recognized as a city until the year 1086, when it was documented as a village in the *Domesday Book.

The economy of Birmingham is based on a wide variety of activities, among which we can name, for example, engineering, manufacturing, and tourism. During the Industrial Revolution, this city became one of the most important centers in the United Kingdom from the point of view of industries, in such a way that it counts with a large amount of factories and businesses of many kinds.
All those tourists who wish to travel to a destination that offers them the chance to meet many unique constructions from the 18th and 19th centuries would surely make a great choice by opting for Birmingham. During those centuries, and as a result of the impact the Industrial Revolution had on the city, a great amount of constructions were built in it. Despite of this, this city doesn't count with many constructions that date from the earlier moments of its history, although visitors can still meet several religious buildings from the medieval times and some other spots or ruins from other époques.
