1775 Sir James Jay invents invisible ink…
It may not seem like such a big deal, but invisible ink was just the right answer for certain applications including passing military secrets by courier, and espionage activities. Some invisible inks are complicated, such as Copper sulfate, which is only developed by sodium carbonate. However, some invisible inks can be made of common items, and developed by heat. These would include: milk • lemon juice • apple juice • orange juice • onion juice • vinegar • wine. These agents should be slightly diluted with water. Then the message is written or the drawing made. Allow the paper to fully dry. It can now be read with a hair dryer, or even a light bulb of at least 100 watts.
