1620 The Mayflower reaches Cape Cod and explores the coast…
The Mayflower was most famous ship used to transport Pilgrims from Plymouth, England, to the Plymouth Colony in what would ultimately be Massachusetts in the United States. The Mayflower carried a crew of about 25, only five of which are known, and passenger list of 102 souls. The impetus for the Mayflower's famous voyage was the word of a successful English settlement in Jamestown in 1607. (There was another ship named the Mayflower – though it came later. In 1629 another Mayflower left London enroute to the Plymouth Colony with 35 passengers aboard.)
